Bread Making Workshops

I run hands-on bread making workshops where I share the processes, tips and tricks that I've learnt over the years so that you too can produce a range of great breads.

Getting you started on your own delicious journey, I will teach you simple formulas and help you gain the confidence required to master this sometimes mysterious craft. Regardless of your home set up, you too can make great bread.

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced baker who wants to learn more, these sessions will have you building your own breads throughout the day and practising key skills, all in an informal, intimate and fun environment. The all-day workshops are limited to small groups so that you can get the most out of our time together.

The workshops are run from from different locations;

- Nottingham Mill Coop bakery kitchen in Sneinton Market Avenues in Nottingham city centre

- Tuxford Windmill bakery space, in the beautiful village of Tuxford, North Nottinghamshire

- Pippley Cookery School, based in Pippley walled garden in Beeston, where I run shorter classes. For a full list of courses and to book visit www.pippley.co.uk

- My home in Sherwood, in a spacious open-plan kitchen and micro-bakery area

During the day you will explore specific breads and techniques, based on the course you select. There is also ongoing post-workshop support to help you continue your learning.

Just select the type of bread workshop you are interested in and choose a location. If you are buying as a gift we also offer a gift voucher option which can be redeemed for any of the courses on sale below.

Private group bookings for events or special occasions are available on request, please get in touch.

What people say....

'I would highly recommend the sourdough workshop it was so much fun and really informative! I wasn’t sure what to expect from the day and how much I would learn (and take in) as my bread making skills have been terrible in the past, but Steve explained each step of the process in detail and made it really easy to understand. We learnt everything from the types of flours to use and how to look after your starter right through to the finished project which is a beautiful baked loaf. He showed us all the techniques we need and was very patient and helpful if it took us a while to get it right.

The course has reignited my love of baking and all I can think about it when I can bake my next loaf. The help and advice doesn’t end when the course does Steve is always on hand to answer any questions and encourage us. It feels like a lovely little community we’re all part of! Oh and the lunch is incredible!!’

Before finding Steve's sourdough workshop, I looked into several other courses but I’m so glad I found this one! The workshop gave me with all the knowledge and skills I need to start baking sourdough. One of the main reasons I’m happy with my choice is that Steve continues to stay in touch. He checks in to see how our bread making is going and gives us feedback / tips to help us make even better bread at home! I don’t think I would have experienced that kind of help anywhere else. It is very appreciated :)

Honestly brilliant, beyond my expectations and i've been recommending it to everyone. Steve’s enthusiasm, care and encouragement was and is so so lovely and as someone who teaches adults daily it was brilliant to be on the other side of it and have such a good experience. Steve is a natural and it really was excellently done. The relaxed atmosphere, the set up, how well organised it was and of course the delicious bread and new skills learnt. The added extras such as the bread scraper, banneton and starter etc was so generous and well received.

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the course. So happy I went on it and it's worth every penny! It's given me a lot of confidence to start making bread myself and so helpful to have the WhatsApp and ongoing guidance. It felt great to properly understand the process and be walked through it. I found all of the conversation really helpful and enjoyable with the openness and ease of being able to ask questions

I loved the workshop. You were so welcoming and organised! The instructions/guidance were fab, and no question was too stupid. As a by the by - the lunch was delicious, getting to take the starter home and the dough scraper were lovely touches. I had a fab day and will happily book on future courses with you. Absolutely outstanding time.

I thought the day was relaxed, informative and enjoyable. You welcomed us into your bakery and provided enough information and tuition to make us confident to 'have a go'. Therefore, the order of events suited me and you sent us home with handouts sufficient to get started. The follow up by Whatsapp is exceptional, even responding on a Sunday, sorry! I was so impressed I have recommended the day to the family and friends I have spoken to so far.

Overall I thought the day was fantastic, well presented and informative. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the other students and learning. I didn't realise sourdough bread was so difficult to make but the teaching was broken down into easily understood chunks.

I liked standing around the kitchen island and learning in an informal way. It was almost like a personal one-to-one session. I think that helped foster a more open and questioning learning environment which is great for learning something as daunting as sourdough. The intimate size allowed for a personal interactive learning experience with room for questions and discussion. The pace of the workshop and the right balance between theory and practice without overwhelm. I am honestly delighted that I have this new bread skill to explore, one that I could not 'get' for ages. Thank you 🙏.

I knew that I would enjoy the workshop but had underestimated how much I would learn and how interesting it would be. It’s was great to learn along side people who were just as keen. It was really interactive which showed that the atmosphere created was spot on.

Steve is so enthusiastic and engaging making the day flow really well even though the process had to be split across the session. Very knowledgeable and his sharing of how he’s got to his perfect loaf has been invaluable. The support after the workshop has been brilliant - meaning that I will persevere! Really tasty lunch! If you’re thinking twice about it - don’t - just do it!
